The actor has enrolled at an aviation school in Florida where he is completing a course to get his license, according to Mid Day.
A source told the paper: "Considering the curiosity surrounding the next Krrish sequel, the production house is trying to keep things under wraps as the film starts shooting later this November."
His character is reportedly inspired by Patrick Stewart's Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men, who also flies his own customised aircraft.
Oberoi's character is also claimed to be in a wheelchair for most of the film, until the climax in which he battles superhero Hrithik Roshan in an aerial sequence.
Krrish director Rakesh Roshan is also directing the sequel to the science fiction blockbuster.
Oberoi was recently honoured for his charitable work by Forbes Asia.
He was recognised for his work for organisations including Project Hope, Yashodhara Oberoi Foundation, and Project Devi.
