The 24 star will next be seen in Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
Kapoor told Mumbai Mirror: "I am what I am because of Bollywood. Shekhar Kapur keeps telling me that I should stop working in Indian films, but I'll never do that.
"At the end of the day, I am a very emotional person. I just continue being myself, a mainstream commercial hero from Indian cinema. To be honest, Hollywood too has its downside."
However, Kapoor revealed that his international breakthrough success in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire had made him feel like a new person.
The 51-year old said: "Professionally, it has opened several doors for me. For the first time in my 30-year-old career, I am getting offers from the US and Great Britain.
"And in the US, I am what I was 30 years ago in India. It's like I am starting all over again."
Kapoor added that being excluded from the promotional footage of the Mission Impossible sequel meant that expectations in India would "remain low".
The actor will also start shooting Cities with British star Clive Owen in November.
