The actor can currently be seen in Murder 2, playing an ex-policeman in Goa who is recruited by a local pimp to find missing prostitutes.
Hashmi told Mid Day: " I am a huge fan of science fiction, horror and thrillers. I like watching anything that is bizarre - think Psycho, American Psycho and Seven.
"Given a chance, I would love to essay Anthony Hopkins's role in Silence of the Lambs."
Hashmi added that he rarely watches other Bollywood films because he is so busy.
"Frankly, I don't get much time to watch films. In theatres, I watch only English films and my own projects," he said. "I might sound narcissistic, but I don't take time out to watch the regular Bollywood fare."
However, Hashmi admitted that he wants to make a film that his son Ayaan can watch before he is allowed to go to the cinema without his parents.
The star, nicknamed 'the serial kisser', said: "My wife complains that he can't see any of my films until he turns at least 16. I want to do a children's film, but something a little offbeat."
Hashmi recently said that he would rather be known as a serial killer than a "serial kisser" for his choice of roles.
