Amitabh Bachchan: 'There is no discrimination in Bollywood'

Amitabh Bachchan has said that Bollywood fosters a spirit of brotherhood and that there is "no discrimination" in the Hindi film industry.

The actor, whose forthcoming film Aarakshan deals with the issue of reservation, was in New Delhi to promote the film along with the rest of the cast.

"I am lucky to be a part of this industry which does not believe in any kind of reservation," Bachchan told NDTV. "It actually brings people together."

The 68-year-old actor, who portrays a college principal in the controversial socio-political drama, said that even film-goers display the spirit of equality.

"The best example can be of the thousands of people who go and watch our films. While enjoying a film, one never thinks to which caste and religion the next person in the theatre belongs to.

"In fact, everybody sits together in one place and enjoy the film together. They cry for the same reason, laugh at the same joke and sing the same songs," added Bachchan.

The Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap star said that Aarakshan is a film that audiences should watch for its universal themes.

Directed by Prakash Jha, Aarakshan also stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Manoj Bajpai and Prateik Babbar.

The film is scheduled for release on August 12, 2011.
