The father and son duo have never acted on screen together before.
New Kerala reports that the two also played father and son on screen in the Ayan Mukherji-directed advertisement.
Mukherji previously directed Ranbir Kapoor in the teen comedy Wake Up Sid.
The advert, which will have a follow-up, shows a father ridiculing his son's chances of becoming a millionaire.
Viewers will get to see in the next advert whether Ranbir Kapoor goes on to become a millionaire.
The credits of the advert feature the music from the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
Kapoor is currently the "ambassador" for Pepsi, after taking over from Shah Rukh Khan.
In November, the actor was seen helping a female friend escape an arranged marriage in a sequence of adverts shot by Mukherji.
Rishi Kapoor recently reunited with dancing partner Mithun Chakraborty for Housefull 2.
The older Kapoor was known for his dancing skills, with box-office successes including Bobby.
