The two are rumoured to be romantically involved since starting work on Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya.
Producer Ramesh Tamauri told New Kerala: "We had Riteish in mind while penning the script. When we narrated the story to him, he jumped on board immediately.
"For the female lead, we were looking for someone chirpy and bubbly and someone who would just look perfect with Riteish. Genelia fit the bill. She said I'm in when we approached her. The chemistry between the two is crackling."
D'Souza and Deshmukh are appearing on screen together for the first time since the hits Tujhe Meri Kasam and Masti.
Tamauri refused to confirm media stories about whether the couple are dating.
"I can't comment on their personal life, but Riteish and Genelia look really cute together. Their chemistry shows in the film and works well for it too," he said.
D'Souza and co-star John Abraham were reportedly married in real life by a priest conducting an on-screen wedding ceremony between the pair in the action film Force.
Director Vipul Shah later denied that the priest's claims were true.
