The first film saw R Madhavan playing a British Indian called Manu who goes to India to find a wife, only to fall for Tanu (Kangana Ranaut) who deliberately acts out of line so that she cannot be presented to Manu's parents.
Director Aanand L Rai told New Kerala: "I am thrilled to join hands with [studio] Eros on this film. I am confident together we will make some very entertaining cinema. I hope to recreate the same magic with the sequel and reach out to global audiences."
It is unknown whether Ranaut or R Madhavan will reprise their roles for the follow-up.
In August, Ranaut said that the comic romance has been the highlight of her career so far, adding: "I think audiences have started liking me in this comic avatar!"
Ranaut has also described herself primarily as a comedy actress as her roles in Tanu Weds Manu and Double Dhamaal have allowed her to escape heavy serious parts.
