The directorial debut by co-star Shahid Kapoor's father Pankaj Kapoor follows the love affair of a Punjabi pilot and a Kashmiri girl.
Sonam told The Times of India: "Mausam can't be compared with a Bodyguard or a Singham. They're essentially masala entertainers. Every age group can watch and enjoy them.
"They are light-hearted films. Of course, Shahid is the muscle-man in my film. He's gone shirtless; he's donned a uniform like Sallu and Ajay. So we have all that!"
Sonam and Shahid have become close friends since making the movie, during which the director created bonding exercises to improve their on-screen chemistry.
However, Mausam has faced a series of problems since its planned release, which have led to screenings being cancelled.
The movie's premiere at the Toronto Film Festival was delayed because of the Censor Board's concerns about the depiction of the Indian air force.
