The director was forced to stop shooting in June after lead actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan announced that she is pregnant.
Bhandarkar told followers on Twitter: "Heroine is back on track, pre-production starts from today, need your blessings & prayers!!!"
The film centres on a Bollywood star's life, with Kareena Kapoor now taking on the titular role.
In August, the actress confirmed that she would be starring in the movie after reaching a pay compromise with its producers.
Bhandarkar controversially accused Rai Bachchan of hiding the fact that she was pregnant until after the shoot had begun.
However, he has since admitted that he intended the film for Bodyguard star Kapoor.
Bhandarkar is currently facing a High Court summons for a rape accusation from an actress.
He issued a statement on his blog about the alleged incident, claiming that she had attempted to blackmail him for a role in a film made in 2003.
