The Southern actor will be part of the Anurag Kashyap-produced Ayya, reports The Times of India.
"I play a young Tamil painter in the film that narrates the love story between him and a Marathi girl," the actor revealed.
The star of Tamil, Telugu and Mollywood cinema will also deliver his own dialogue in the project.
"I'll also be dubbing for the movie in Hindi," confirmed Prithviraj.
The movie is directed by National Award-winning Marathi filmmaker Sachin Kundalkar.
Prithviraj, who starred in Mani Ratnam's Ravaanan, attended the London premiere of the Hindi version, with actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Vikram.
Mukherjee's last film release was January's critically-acclaimed No One Killed Jessica.
