The 26-year-old actress and lingerie model is to replace Kites star Barbara Mori in the film, according to Hindustan Times.
Atkinson told the paper: "I loved the script. It has everything: love, murder and action. The Bollywood film industry is so glamourous. For me, it was about discovering another side and seeing how things in Bollywood are done."
Atkinson, who used to date footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, added that she only has artistic reservations about taking her clothes off on screen.
"With regards to nudity, it all depends on how it's being shot and if it's necessary," she said.
"There are many ways to show people being in love on screen and Fever is more about the perceived sexual tension than the physical sex. [Director] Rajeev Jhaveri is shooting this movie so beautifully that I'm sure the sex scenes will be done tastefully."
The former Hollyoaks star will next be seen in romantic comedy How to Stop Being A Loser, which co-stars Richard E Grant, Pamela Anderson and Jill Halfpenny.
In 2008, Atksinson admitted that she was reluctant to take up work offers in the UK because she was afraid of being over-exposed in the industry.
