Dharma Productions have reportedly bought the rights to the novel, with plans to commence filming on the project in 2012.
Johar is said to be hoping to emulate the success of Aamir Khan's Three Idiots, which was based on Bhagat's 'The 3 Mistakes of My Life'.
The director's Khar-based production house has already announced a number of releases for next year, including Agneepath in January, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu in February and Student of the Year in the summer.
Johar also recently revealed the casting of former partners Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.
An announcement is also expected to be made shortly on the shooting schedule of the sequel to the 2008 hit Dostana.
