The director is considering whether to hire a new composer after the performers asked for a share of the film's royalties, Mumbai Mirror claims.
"UTV did not expect Salim-Sulaiman to make such a demand. The composers have worked with UTV [on] Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion in 2008. The box office success of the film had at the time benefited Salim-Sulaiman as well," an insider revealed.
"It's a stalemate. If UTV and Salim-Sulaiman both... refuse to budge, then the music director for the project will need to be replaced," added the source.
Earlier, when Kareena Kapoor took over the title role following Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's pregnancy announcement, the director had to reshoot key scenes of the project.
Arjun Rampal, who plays an actor in the film, is said to be modelling his character on Shah Rukh Khan.
Bhandarkar unveiled his ambitious project at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
