The complex, located on the edge of the city in Goregaon East will be redesigned by award-winning art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai, Mumbai Mirror reports.
"Yes, Nitin Desai has been appointed as a consultant and will draw up the development plan of Film City including the setting up of a Bollywood museum," announced Managing Director of Film City, Shyam Tagade.
"We are planning to recast the studios and provide better facilities for shooting. One of the main attractions will be a zone for tourists. Shoots get disturbed if tourists visit the studio. So, we will now have an area where tourists can come and visit," he added.
Plans are underway to construct a theme park and a range of luxury hotels to attract visitors to the complex.
Director Subhash Ghai's Whistling Woods, Asia's largest film school, opened at the Film City complex in July 2006.
Salman Khan told Digital Spy that he moved into the studio during the shooting of Bodyguard to cut down on commuting time in the city.
