The actor decided that he had to bulk up after meeting the real-life policeman his character is based on, according to Mumbai Mirror.
Director Sanjay Gupta said: "Yeah, Anil met Isaque Bhagwan for the first time, on Tuesday. Isaque, who is now a close friend, came home to invite me for his son's wedding. We then drove down to Anil's place. The meeting was very fruitful.
"After meeting Isaque, Anil decided to work out even some more. Since Anil shares screen-space with John Abraham, he wants to compete with his physique and agility. He will get into better shape, if that's possible."
Another source added that Kapoor was planning to practice "losing his temper" at home, in order to become more aggressive for the role.
Sonam Kapoor recently denied that her father was using botox to further his career in the US and Indian film industries.
