The actor made an appearance at a joint venture by Disney and a children's television channel promoting conservation, says The Times of India.
"Every night before going to bed, I want all of you to ask yourselves if you gave anything back to the environment [and] society that day. Plant trees. See to it that trees are preserved," he said.
"As a child I did it myself. It is also important to go out and play over watching TV all day. I am a film star myself. There is no harm in watching TV [and] films but it has to be done in moderation."
Deol will next be seen with Saif Ali Khan in what has been billed as Bollywood's first ever zombie comedy Rock the Shaadi.
In October, he said the film could also be described as a "big fat Punjabi-meets-zombie-wedding".
