The 24-year-old actress has so far only appeared as a guest on the special celebrity edition of the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? hosted by Shatrughan.
She told Hindustan Times: "Dad and I will look fabulous on screen together. I know he's been wanting to work with me.
"But he's a busy man, and fortunately, I also have some work to boast about. The day we land a good script, even if it's not a home production, we'll do it. I want to see how well we translate our off-screen chemistry on screen.
"Dad is very particular about the movies he accepts. He worked in Aan and many years later, he put up a splendid performance in Rakta Charitra. It's difficult to find a script that pleases him."
Shatrughan Sinha turned to politics after starting his career in the Pakistani and Indian film industry.
Sonakshi, who got her big break in Dabanng last year, has said that she feels comfortable in Bollywood as she had grown up there.
