The Bollywood veteran was approached by filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker to take a lead in the unnamed movie, according to Mumbai Mirror.
The paper quotes Khan as saying: "I don't do good films. I do hit films. I work in films that make money, not the ones that get awards.
"I arrive in the afternoon and shoot at my own pace. You're used to working with other actors who reach the set on the dot at 9am and work according to your pace."
However, director Gowariker denied that he had asked Khan to appear in the film.
Khan will next be seen in the romance Ek Tha Tiger before shooting the sequel to his hit film Dabanng.
In September, Aamir Khan described Salman as the "number one" box office star in India today.
