Johar has opted for the composer over Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy on Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani from Wake Up Sid director Ayan Mukherjee.
"Although Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composed a good album for Ayan's debut film Wake Up Sid, the young filmmaker was keen to work with Pritam this time around," a source explained.
The Dharma Productions head is known to usually work with the composer trio or Vishal and Shekhar on the soundtrack to his films.
Pritam has developed a reputation in the Hindi film industry for recording songs that sound similar to previously released international tracks.
Johar said: "This will be the first time Pritam will compose music for a Dharma film. We are very excited to have him on board. It will be interesting to see Ayan and Pritam connect musically."
