The movie is described as a romantic comedy with a twist, and will reportedly feature two of Bollywood's biggest stars in the leading roles.
Kapoor revealed: "The film is an urban take on love. It is quirky, edgy, dramatic and intense."
Details of the casting are expected to be unveiled within the next week.
Johar is said to have agreed to being part of debut director Akash Roy's movie after a script reading, stating: "At Dharma, we believe in launching young talent."
The filmmaker had earlier produced former assistant directors Tarun Mansukhani's Dostana and Punit Malhotra's I Hate Luv Storys.
