The actor can currently be seen playing an Oxbridge graduate-turned-male stripper in Desi Boyz.
Abraham told The Times of India: "When I first got my share of criticism, my dad reminded me of this parable. It's about Little John who was crossing a bridge that could accommodate only one person.
"And there came Big William who wanted to cross and he said 'I don't let fools pass' to which little John replied, 'I do'. That's my philosophy in life. Whatever anyone says will not evoke a negative response from me. I will just put my head down and continue working hard."
The former model added: "What's important is how one reacts. I take it as constructive criticism and strive to do better. A director recently told me, 'John I must admit you are a very good actor and I wonder why people didn't notice that earlier'. I just smiled."
In September, Abraham admitted that he thinks publicity campaigns could persuade people to watch films even if the movies themselves are poor quality.
