The legendary Bollywood actor was briefly involved with the left-wing Samajwadi party.
Dutt told The Times of India: "Politics is totally over for me. I cannot lecture or spin lies.
"I think the best thing about my short-lived political career was that I saw the interiors of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. That is the real India and being an Indian, it was really sad to see our own people living in such dismal conditions. It was a real eye-opener."
Dutt was jailed for six years for storing and destroying arms after the Mumbai blasts of 1993, though he was cleared of any connection to the attacks.
In July, he decided to return to Bollywood, saying that he enjoyed acting more than working in politics.
