The producer said that he is prepared to sell the Tamil and Telugu rights to the film to the South Indian market, reports Hindustan Times.
Johar stated: "I'm not so concerned about the money, but the film is close to my heart and I don't want to hand over the remake rights to a producer who can't do justice to the subject."
The original 1990 film was produced by the filmmaker's father, the late Yash Johar.
"If I find someone as passionate about Agneepath as I am, and the deal works out financially too, I'll pass on the rights," Johar explained. "Otherwise, I'm cool with both my Agneepaths. Twenty-two years later, I've made my father proud. And that's what really matters."
Its negative lead villain, Danny Denzongpa, recently said that the new version of the film was an easy way for Johar to make money.
