The actor's film production company is making the feature, which follows up his Indo-Canadian film Breakaway.
A source told Mumbai Mirror: "Akshay Kumar will be seen in multiple avatars from a Hindu character to a Muslim one. Different looks are being designed keeping his character in mind. From pathani to dhoti-clad look, he will be seen sporting all."
In August, it was claimed that he will play Lord Krishna in the project, which was then titled Krishnan Vs Kanhaiya.
The film centres on an atheist who challenges god after he loses his antique shop in an earthquake.
Kumar is also signed up to star as the mastermind of a famous jewellery heist in a crime thriller directed by Neeraj Pandey.
