Amitabh Bachchan admitted to hospital for abdominal surgery

Amitabh Bachchan has been admitted to Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai for abdominal surgery.

The 69-year-old actor is known to have been suffering with stomach ailments for some time.

He tweeted: "Set now for another trip to Hospital... a destination that invites me more often than I would like."

Bachchan's illness is said to stem from an injury sustained on the set of Coolie in 1982, when a blow to the intestines during a fight scene almost led to his death.

Speaking on his blog, Bachchan said: "My stomach, which has already been the bed of many complicated battles in the past, shall have to entertain this as well. It's a war zone, my body, and one which has been through a great deal and still does.

"A surgery that I shall be undergoing on the 11th morning and the surgery they say is not too complicated, but then all doctors say the same as you end up on the operating table, and before long the details and the subsequent anxieties begin to rise."
