Irrfan Khan has admitted that his latest role of a sportsman-turned-villain reminded him of his own father.
The actor takes on the eponymous role in Paan Singh Tomar - a successful runner who decides to become a bandit.
Khan told Mumbai Mirror: "Initially, I didn't understand why the role was affecting me so much. I've played many characters that have consumed me and owned me. But none like this.
"Paan Singh in some strange and inexplicable way reminded me of my father, the late Sahabzade Yaseen Ali Khan. He was a zamindar [businessman]. He conveyed in his personality the same arrogant valour as Paan Singh."
He added that the two men had shared similar qualities such as "love for valour and adventure, outdoor spirit and most importantly, the fearlessness".
In January, it was reported that Khan is to replace Neil Nitin Mukesh in the thriller Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 2.
The Slumdog Millionaire star will next be seen in The Amazing Spider-Man.
