The actor most recently appeared in the action film Desi Boyz with Akshay Kumar.
Abraham told The Times of India: "I know everyone makes a big deal about stardom, but I lead a very simple life. I was an outsider yesterday, today I'm an insider.
"But my life hasn't changed. I take a rickshaw; my parents take a bus to reach places. You don't need a fancy car or a 'status' to be an actor. I strive to live a middle-class life."
He added: "[Director] Mahesh Bhatt is the reason for my success in Bollywood. He once told me that I might not become a superstar, but I'll leave a mark. I will always cherish that comment."
In September, Abraham said that he wanted to commit to promoting his films more as they have underperformed at the cinema.
He has previously admitted that he is tired of just being perceived as a body because of his physique.
