The Tigmanshu Dhulia project is based on the real-life story of an athlete turned dacoit, played by Slumdog Millionaire star Khan.
Stating that the film was a tribute to India's unsung sporting heroes, Bachchan posted on Twitter: "Paan Singh Tomar: a stupendous film. Tigmanshu Dhulia and Irrfan you are exceptional gentlemen. Many more laurels for you."
Director Kashyap added his praise, writing: "Paan Singh Tomar has a great gallery of actors including a real Khan, who go uncelebrated in this star obsessed nation of ours."
Kalki, the star of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, wrote: "Paan Singh Tomar a very good Hindi film after a very long time."
The movie, set in the Chambal valley in central India, follows the story of Tomar from achieving a steeplechase national record to becoming a wanted criminal.
The film previously premiered at the 2010 British Film Institute London Film Festival.
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Paan Singh Tomar, a UTV Motion Pictures production, is out in cinemas now.
