Speaking to the assembled media, Abraham said: "I want to change the system of working. Everything is so intensively driven by stars. It's pretty lofty, but I want to drive films with their concepts, with their subjects, rather than with their stars.

"If there are five A-lister stars, I would rather talk about content and hope that the stars fit in that content and that space, rather than we create content around an actor."

Abraham went on to praise the Indian film industry, saying: "I'm very proud of our films. We have just not really grown to the level we could have grown to, because we haven't created content. It's where we lack. If we start creating content than I think we are world class.

"I think we've got world class cameramen, world class directors, world class actors, and I think if we can get one important ingredient, that's great screenplay writers, I think we can draw a nice balance and get some good cinema that the Indian diaspora can enjoy all across the world."

The 39-year-old actor, who has produced over 30 TV commercials, has taken up the mantle of producer for the film Vicky Donor, which stars Ayushmann Khurrana in his debut role.

Abraham explained that he is committed to nurturing new talent, commenting: "Like I said, a lot of people ask me, 'John, you have completed only nine or ten years. Why are you doing it? Shouldn't actors who have been here for 25 years be finding talent?' And I say, 'If no one does it then someone should do it'.

"I'm going to keep making sure I'm promoting new talent. I don't have a problem with doing so, in fact I love doing so."

Vicky Donor releases on April 20, 2012.
