Ranvir Shorey: 'I'm not getting leading roles'

Ranvir Shorey has claimed that he needs to start getting better roles from filmmakers.

The actor will next be seen playing a supporting role in Deepa Mehta's Midnight's Children.

Shorey told Hindustan Times: "I started off not wanting to be an actor, but to be a filmmaker. So acting happened to me by chance. To be called a good actor is my due considering that I never wanted to be an actor.

"But now that you are in the game I still feel there is so much I can do more than what I am being offered or getting a chance in terms of how I am cast, how my films are projected or marketed.

"I feel I am not getting the kind of roles I would like and I am definitely not getting attention.

"It is not that I don't want to do lead roles in the mainstream films with big budget films, but nobody wants to cast me there. They want to cast me only in supporting roles, maybe because I started off that way.

"But there are other braver people like Rajat Kapoor, who managed to give me a lead role in Ugly Aur Pagli. There are people who have had that kind of faith in me to ride that kind of money on me. [I] hope more filmmakers will take a chance."

Shorey welcomed a child with long-term girlfriend Konkona Sen Sharma in March 2011.

The couple have paired up on screen four times, including for films Traffic Signal and Mixed Doubles.
