The movie is the sequel to 2008 hit Jannat, which was based on the underbelly of match-fixing. Hashmi plays a small town boy who comes to Delhi with big dreams and finds himself unwittingly embroiled in the illegal arms trade.
Speaking about the role at the film's music launch, Hashmi told NDTV: "This is the most entertaining character I have played till date. In 2008, I played Arjun Dixit in Jannat and that was by far my favourite character.
"This character is funnier, more entertaining and has got grey shades, but he is extremely endearing."
Model Eesha Gupta, who makes her Bollywood debut with the film, said that Hashmi's name will sell the movie.
"It's a Bhatt camp film [Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt]. You know, the film is going to be amazing because of its music," she said. "Thanks to Pritam [Chakraborty], we have got amazing music and the star already, you know, Emraan Hashmi! What else do you think is the USP of the film?"
Jannat 2 is Hashmi 's first role after the success of The Dirty Picture. The actor will also star in his first U-rated film this year.
Jannat 2 is released today (May 4).
