Based on the opening weekend figures, trade experts say the film will garner record collections in the coming weeks.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times, trade expert Komal Nahta said: "Single-screen cinemas are going berserk over RR. It's a straight blockbuster."
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh added: "RR is Akshay's Dabangg. I call it a wow-dy weekend for Rathore. Akshay lived the role and Prabhu Deva knows his audience well. With Rs. 15.1 cr (Friday, June 1), Rs. 14.7 cr (Saturday, June 2) and Rs. 18.5 cr (Sunday, June 3), the film has netted Rs. 48.5 cr this weekend."
Adarsh dismissed the film's negative reviews, saying: "People want entertainment and this film offers it. They rubbished Sholay. What matters is how much money the film is making."
Rowdy Rathore was released in 3,000 screens in India and overseas.
Made at a budget of 45 crores, the film had recovered its money when its satellite, music and home video rights were sold for 35 crores, 7 crores and 3 crores respectively. Overseas collections amounted to 11 crores.
Celebrating the film's success, Siddharth Roy Kapur, MD of Studios Disney UTV, said: "We had a six month promotion strategy for the film, but what really hit it was the connect Prabhu Deva, his team and the film have made with the audience."
Rowdy Rathore is the biggest solo release of Akshay Kumar's career.
