The actress can currently be seen in the gangster thriller Shanghai.
She told DNA India: "I think Indian cinema is going through a great phase. The lines between art house cinema and the mainstream commercial fare are blurring and that's the kind of cinema I want to dabble in without being slotted as an arty actor or a commercial one.
"I think this year's been the year of small films and real stories and I am proud to be part of films like Shanghai."
Koechlin added that she had looked forward to meeting controversial Dutch director Lars Von Trier.
"Maybe I won't do an Antichrist, but then he has done several other films too that are just as good, but little less graphic."
In August, the actress called out for fans on Twitter to see her film The Girl in Yellow Boots to help it break even.
Director Anurag Kashyap criticised Indian distributors who were reluctant to take on the film because its lack of bankable stars.
