Sonia Gandhi invites Esha Deol, husband Bharat Takhtani to her home

Esha Deol and husband Bharat Takhtani have been invited to the home of Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress president made the offer after she was unable to attend their recent wedding.

Deol's mother Hema Malini told IANS: "We had invited [the] PM and Sonia Gandhi for the wedding. They couldn't come for security reasons.

"If it would have been in Delhi, they would have made it. It's a sweet gesture from Sonia Gandhi that she has sent Esha and Bharat an invite that whenever they are in Delhi, they should go to her place for lunch or dinner."

Malini has had a parallel career in cinema and politics as a member of India's Bharatiya Janata Party.

The wedding at the Iskcon Temple in Bombay's Juhu village was attended by actors Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji.

Bollywood stars Jeetendra, his son Tusshar Kapoor, Kajol, Fardeen Khan and Vidya Balan later attended the reception.
