Anurag Basu has revealed that he would not have made Barfi! without Ranbir Kapoor.
The comedy about disabilities also stars Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz.
Basu told the Hindustan Times: "If Ranbir wouldn't have done this movie, I wouldn't have made it. I always had Ranbir in my mind for this role. Even on the day when I was writing the 10th page of the script.
"Ranbir [plays] the role of a deaf and mute person, and he excels with his intricate gestures and body language, which reminds one of Mr Bean and Charlie Chaplin.
"Ranbir as a person is very spontaneous and naughty," Basu added. "His aura is such that I remember on the last day of [the] shoot, Ranbir was bidding goodbye to all by hugging them. I saw how everyone was feeling that moment... they were really feeling sad."
Kapoor recently said that the film is "about enjoying life, giving happiness, feeling love".
Barfi! will be released on September 12 following a series of delays because of D'Cruz's illness and Chopra's recording schedule.
