Randeep Hooda has denied that he wants to take on Emraan Hashmi's tough-guy image.

The actor will be stepping into Hashmi's role in sequel Murder 3.

He told the Hindustan Times: "I am doing a film, not carrying a legacy forward. I have no issues with who did the role before me or who will do it later.

"Mallika Sherawat too is associated with Murder, so why isn't anyone making a fuss about her not being in Murder 3?"

Hooda added: "After being out of work for a long period of time, now my hands are full. Since I have seen the downside of not having enough work, I am making the most of this time. I don't think I have had a year where I had two big releases.

"You have to make enough noise to be cast in the right films and the best way to make that noise is to do lots of good work."

In July 2011, it was reported that Hashmi was trying to oust Hooda from Mahesh Bhatt's Informer.

Producer Bhatt confirmed that the two stars had a personality clash but denied that he would drop either one.

Hooda will next be seen in the melodrama Heroine opposite Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor.
