Anurag Kashyap has denied that Gangs of Wasseypur is a demanding film.

The director will be releasing the second part of the critically acclaimed historical epic later this year.

He told the Hindustan Times: "I don't think it's intelligent to watch Gangs of Wasseypur. You just need to be clear-minded and have the ability to absorb [the story and characters].

"The movies I make come naturally to me, because that's what I know best. There should be different films in the industry. Why should there be a herd mentality?"

Kashyap added: "In a two-part film, the second one has to be better than the first. Gangs of Wasseypur II is more fun, it's less of a documentary. The first one exceeded our expectations, and now we are looking forward to part two. I think Gangs of Wasseypur is my best work to date."

The filmmaker admitted recently that he ramped up the violence in the second part to make it more "realistic".

In June, he accused Indian audiences of being unappreciative of difficult cinema.
