Chitrangada Singh has dismissed the 'item girl' label.
The actress can be seen doing her first item sequence in the upcoming Joker.
She told PTI: "It's just a song at the end of the day and I don't understand what is the big deal about an item number. We had songs in Mughal-e-Azam and they were never termed as item songs. You just remember the song and the dance and it's beautiful.
"If we do it in a certain way, and there is nothing objectionable about the lyrics or dance steps, then I don't know why anything becomes objectionable or has to be explained. I get irritated by the term 'item number' but I understand that it is the way people understand that you are not a part of the film but just doing a song.
"I think it's about just tagging the actor. It's good to keep changing tags as an actor; I have been tagged before and now I have got another one."
Singh revealed last week that she had found dancing on-screen "tough".
The independent film star announced in December that she wants to appear in more "masala" films.
