The All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) has urged Sikh clergy to take legal action.
Karnail Singh told IANS: "The film's trailer has demeaning dialogues. In the film, the lead actor wears a Sikh turban but has the tattoo of a Hindu god on his chest. This is against Sikh principles."
He added that he had urged producers to delete the offending scenes but has received no response.
Controversial dialogue includes: "If Sikhs were not there, then who would have invented abuses?"
Another line causing problems is: "In case Sardaar would not have been there, then on whom would the jokes be made?"
A lawyer reportedly asked for this dialogue to be cut out ahead of the film's Diwali release.
Son of Sardaar is a romance drama based on the Telegu hit Maryada Ramanna.
Devgn recently advised producer and friend Sanjay Dutt to stop playing villains on screen.
