The actor can currently be seen in Raaz 3 opposite Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta.
He told IANS: "I hope my films keep becoming hits, and being compared to Salman is a huge honour.
"I think I have got a lot of work to do, I have been in the industry for just nine years. He is a senior and very encouraging."
Hashmi added that he stars in controversial films because he rarely gets more family-friendly projects.
"No-one gives me such (universal) films. When someone gives me a universal subject, I'll do it," he said.
In May, he admitted that he hates being called an industry "underdog" because of his low profile.
The actor committed to making his first family-friendly film this year so his son can see him on screen.
