The legendary actor, who turned 70 on October 11, was treated to a lavish three-day celebration comprising an art exhibition and a formal dinner and party attended by the film industry's most illustrious stars
Writing about the evening on Twitter, Amitabh said: "T 896 - Last night, an evening filled with emotion love and gratitude, with that small but very potent tribute for them that made us !!
"T 896 - And later an exhibition of 70 paintings by the most eminent artists of India, in remembrance of my birth and contribution .. JSO !! Just so overwhelming."
Guests who attended Amitabh's star-studded birthday party have been describing their highlights from the event.
Speaking on Twitter, Student of the Year director Karan Johar said: "The #B70 bash was a beautiful blend of nostalgia,reverence and legendery acknowledgement...@SrBachchan has a legacy of abundant goodwill...
"He has set the standard of mega stardom in our country and the irony is that this bar is unachievable..happy birthday @SrBachchan..you RULE!"

Described as an evening filled with recollections and reminiscences, a highlight was a moving speech by Amitabh's elder brother Ajitabh, The Times of India reports.
"It was like a biographical account of Amitji's life as seen through the eyes of a younger brother. It started with the elder brother as a child taking his kid brother all round the house on a tricycle. Ajitabh spoke for a good 30 minutes," said a guest at the event.
"Three floors were done up for the bash. One floor was an audio-visual venue for the Big B's life and films. The third floor had a big dance area. The sit-in dinner was organised on the second floor," they added.
The celebration reportedly continued into the early hours with Abhishek and Shweta Nanda seeing guests off at 4.30am.
