"It was a huge jolt," he said. "It was extremely surprising and shocking... It was a sad thing. He has been an important part of my life... His family and others.

"I am very sad... that he is not with us anymore. But I can't feel his loss. I have worked with him for 20 years and I am sure we will continue to see his films for another 500 years. There is a strange feeling that he has not gone. He is still around us."

Sharma described the experience of working with Chopra as "surreal".

"To get the opportunity to work with Yash Chopra is perfect. To work in his film was surreal. He had such a loving nature and child-like behaviour," she said.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan will have a gala premiere in Mumbai in honour of the legendary director, with all of Chopra's heroines present. A Twitter account for the film stated: "All the heroines who ever worked with Yashji, from Mala Sinha and Sadhana, to Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee to Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi to Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, will be there at the premiere. I think they are planning a special tribute to the heroines of Yash Chopra."

Speaking about the film's release, Khan said: "Yashji wanted us to celebrate his work. He wanted that everyone should be happy while seeing his movies. So we are going to celebrate his experience of working on Jab Tak Hai Jaan."

Chopra died on October 21, just weeks ahead of the release of his final film.
