Around 200 people are reported to have protested in front of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Bannerjee's car. Carrying black flags, 15 protestors were arrested outside the festival venue.
The critically acclaimed project, which stars Bengali actress Bidita Bag, deals with the radical communist situation in the region.
The demonstrators argued that in spite of well received screenings at festivals around the world, the Bengali film was deliberately ignored due to its controversial Naxalite content.
Bag is said to have survived an attack by armed militia while shooting the movie.
