Rani Mukherji reportedly wore no make-up for her role in Talaash.

The actress plays a woman separated from her police officer husband, played by Aamir Khan.

Director Reema Kagti told The Times of India: "Rani's character Roshni is dealing with extreme emotional upheaval. I felt that a woman in her state would not think too much about her appearance.

"Therefore, we went with a very casual and clean no make-up look. She is truly beautiful and so photogenic. She manages to look terrific even with no make-up."

A separate source added: "Though it is known as the 'no make-up look', there is some amount of make-up always used to even out the skin tone and to protect the skin from the harsh lights.

"Rani, too, took the same approach a couple of times. But each time Reema would come and check if there was any make-up on her face. A couple of times she even asked her to wash her face and take off all traces of make-up.

"The actress had no choice, but to give in to Reema's demands. Her freckled skin is clearly visible in most parts of the film, but Rani had no problems shooting without any make-up on."

Kagti told Digital Spy last week that Khan and Mukherji had "transcended their stardom" in the film.
