Director Reema Kagti had previously shot portions of the movie in the mills and bylanes of Charni Road, Lower Parel, Colaba, Grand Road and Central Bombay.
"Yes, we shot in real locations," confirmed the filmmaker. "We used mostly old structures and buildings that are fast fading from Mumbai."
A number of areas where Talaash was shot in, like the chawl and mill both in Lower Parel, have already given way to construction.
After a couple of months when the unit went back, some of the buildings used in the film had been knocked down. For later patchwork sequences, Kagti had to to use CGI.
The unit had previously identified 520 potential filming locations before finally choosing to shoot in 47 of them.
Rani Mukherji recently told Digital Spy that she does not share screen space with Kareena Kapoor in the project.
Talaash is out now.
