Celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema, the festival paid tribute to the biggest stars of Bollywood at a royal dinner for the Indian delegation, hosted by Prince Moulay Rachid, the Hindustan Times reports.
Khan, who was presented with Morocco's Medal of Honour, tweeted a picture of himself with the medal, saying: "Thanks for the honour and happiness. All the best for the rest of the festival. Thanx everyone for the wishes from Morocco. His Highness the King and the Prince were so gracious with their hospitality and the function."
King Mohammad VI had previously conferred the same honour on Amitabh Bachchan during his visit to India.
Speaking about the reception in Morocco, Bachchan said: "It's very overwhelming to be here especially since our cinema is getting appreciation in another part of the world. Over the years, the festival has become larger. [This festival] is an indication to producers and distributors to explore this market. There is a great number of international viewers here and they should benefit from it."
Writing on Twitter about meeting Catherine Deneuve, Bachchan said: "Great honour to see Morocco celebrating a milestone of another country. Tribute paid by the exquisite Catherine Deneuve, MBWITW.
"MBWITW: Most beautiful Woman in the world ! My absolute obsession when in School and College. Now standing next to her .. bliss !! Such a dignified and memorable ceremony .. the entire film industry delegation on stage, Catherine Deneuve introducing awarding me!
"Such moments are what dreams are made of .. all the celebrities seated next to us at dinner along with His Highness the Prince."
Khan also addressed crowds who had gathered for an open-air screening of Jab Tak Hai Jaan held in honour of the film's late director Yash Chopra.
