Zoya Akhtar has revealed that the climax of Talaash is based on her own real-life experience.

The Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara director said that it was an unexplainable incident that formed the basis for the film's story, IANS reports.

"I had an experience which I could not explain to myself and to others while I was on my way back from a south Mumbai party," said Akhtar. "It was near Haji Ali. All six of us who were travelling went through this. And this experience which I went through became the vital ingredient of the story of Talaash.

"I spoke to Reema [Kagti] about the incident and hence it became the initial trigger point of the script that we wrote together."

Akhtar, who co-wrote the film with Kagti, explained the challenges of making a suspense drama.

"My challenges were to keep the story engaging, give depth to the characters and also focus on their emotional chord. Our audience relates to emotional quotient. So, if you don't connect them emotionally, they will not watch [a film]," she said.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Kagti described Talaash as a tough film to make.

The suspense drama, starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji, has had a positive critical and public response earning Rs. 47.1 crore in the first three days.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Khan praised his co-stars for their performances, describing them both as "fine actors".
