Reema Kagti: 'Talaash is not a supernatural film'

By
In Talash, a cop, a housewife and a prostitute get entangled in a mystery that links their lives in unexpected ways.
Reema Kagti has dismissed descriptions of Talaash as a supernatural film.

The mystery thriller co-stars Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherji and Kareena Kapoor.

She told Bollywood Hungama: "People are comparing my film to The Sixth Sense. But come on, Raj Khosla's Woh Kaun Thi did it so many decades ago.

"To tell you the truth, I don't even believe in ghosts. For me the ghost in Talaash is a metaphor for the unknown. When the story came to Zoya Akhtar and me the treatment was like a full-fledged horror movie.

"Eventually we made Talaash as a tale of a haunted hero. But he doesn't even realise he is haunted."

Kagti added that casting Khan was pivotal for the film, which was released last weekend.

"Aamir plays a character who is so emotionally shattered he can't and won't express his feelings," she said. "I think he has held the film together with his performance.

"There are no emotional closures and culminations to a man losing his child. The wound remains. But by the end of the film, he begins to heal. At least he begins to address the issue. That's how I had to leave Aamir's character."

The cast and crew recently celebrated the thriller's box office success, after it collected Rs. 47.1 crore in three days.

Kapoor claimed last week that her husband Saif Ali Khan was first offered the lead role in Kagti's film.
