Khan and two of his friends have been charged for allegedly assaulting South Africa-based businessman Iqbal Mir Sharma and his father-in-law at a hotel in Colaba.
Zonal DCP Ravindra Shishwe told PTI: "Colaba police station filed the charge sheet against Saif Ali Khan in a metropolitan magistrate court on Thursday."
Khan and his friends were arrested after a brawl at the Wasabi restaurant in the Taj Palace Hotel on February 22.
The actor is said to have had an altercation with Sharma, after the latter requested that Khan and his guests speak more quietly.
Sharma reportedly claims Khan threatened and assaulted him, punching his nose and fracturing it, and also injured his father-in-law.
Khan asserts that Sharma provoked him by using abusive language against the women present. The actor was dining with then girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor and Malaika Arora Khan amongst others.
Kareena has claimed her husband was also injured in the scuffle and was targeted for his celebrity status.
Statements of 29 witnesses were reportedly included in the charge sheet.
