Speaking to The Times of India, he said: "I don't feel I am on the same platform as him, I am not even anywhere close. I can't compete with him because I hold him in such high esteem."

Bachchan, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar are the final three personalities nominated for the title.

Khan has previously been honoured for highlighting social discrimination in India through his TV show Satyamev Jayate.

The Dhoom 3 actor has featured on the cover of TIME magazine, which described him as India's first social activist superstar.
